Who's who in Bond 22

Quantum of Solace
What's in a name? Well, one has to hope for Bond fans, not very much. Most of the reports which followed journalists' sojourn to Pinewood yesterday focused on the 22nd 007 movie's newly announced title. The general consensus was that it was a bit rubbish. Photograph: EPA
Quantum of Solace
Both new Bond girls were on hand to discuss the merits of snogging Daniel Craig and ... well, that was about it, really. No one was giving away much of the plot. Mathieu Amalric, who really must be the diddiest Bond villain since Nik-Nak, said he had based his character on Tony Blair (grin) and Nicolas Sarkozy (eyes). Photograph: Dave Hogan/Getty
Daniel Craig
Daniel Craig returns as 007 in a straight-up sequel - the plot starts an hour after the final scene of Casino Royale, his first adventure in the role. Photograph: Dave Hogan/Getty
Olga Kurylenko
Bond girl No 1 is Olga Kurylenko, a Ukrainian actor and model whose most notable previous role was in the video game adaptation Hitman. She will play a Bolivian character named Camille, who may or may not turn out to be a baddie. We suspect that means she probably will. Photograph: Dave Hogan/Getty
Gemma Arterton
Bond girl No 2 is Gemma Arterton, recently seen as the head girl in the new St Trinian's film. The 21-year-old actor will play Agent Fields, a young MI6 field agent (huh? See what they did?) at the Bolivian consulate. She's said to be the junior Bond girl, so take a punt on an early death. Photograph: Rosie Greenway/Getty
Judi Dench
Judi Dench, whose character was surprisingly unperturbed by the morphing of Pierce Brosnan into Daniel Craig, is back as M. And there are hints that 007's boss will once again come into conflict with the fledgling spy. Photograph: Dave M Benett/Getty
Mathieu Amalric
And here's Frenchman Mathieu Amalric, currently wowing the critics with his turn as a paralysed writer in the Oscar-nominated The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Amalric, who we may already have mentioned is really not particularly tall, revealed yesterday that his character, Dominic Greene, was not much of a one for fisticuffs. "We had this idea that maybe if the villain doesn't know how to fight, James Bond would be more surprised," he said. Photograph: Public domain
