Who’s to say Kim Foxx won’t let some other famous defendant walk?

Kim Foxx, Democratic Cook County State’s Attorney candidate. | Rich Hein/Sun-Times | Sun-Times Media

When Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx dropped all charges against Jussie Smollett, that was more than — to quote your editorial — a “high profile” mistake. Foxx made a statement that she abides by a double standard.

If another offender is high profile, who’s to say Foxx won’t lose it again and let that person walk? She didn’t even fine Smollett, though the police were forced to waste $131,000 in man hours investigating this sham of a case.

Your permissive attitude toward Foxx’s mistake reminds me of Susan Collins, the Republican senators from Maine, saying that she hoped President Donald Trump would learn from his mistake.

What happens if Foxx is re-elected and special prosecutor Dan Webb releases more damning information about the Smollett debacle? Yes, Foxx has made some headway in criminal justice reform by releasing some non-violent offenders, but by her actions in the Smollett incident she has been disrespectful to the Chicago Police Department and brought disgrace to Chicago. Her double-standard mistake made our city look a little worse, a little more like a joke.

I wouldn’t count out Bill Conway to win the Democratic primary for state’s attorney.

Foxx endorsement a joke

What a joke. You admit in your endorsement of Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx that she screwed up big time in the Jussie Smolett case, in which she rolled over to outside pressure. If Chicago and Cook County politicians are ever to get out from under the influence of clout and political shenanigans, we need to hold their feet to the fire and kicked them out of office when they screw up like this, not endorsed them for reelection.

Smollett story and Academy Awards

Great job by special prosecutor Dan Webb in seeing the wrongs done by Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and her office. Hollywood should make a documentary called “Crook County State’s Attorney and Jussie Smollet.” Maybe Smollet will win an Oscar for best actor and Foxx will win for best supporting actress.
