Who’s the ‘most dangerous new weapon’ for the Chargers?

The Chargers made a few roster moves in both free agency and the draft to shore the roster for a possible run at Super Bowl LIV. Out of all the moves the team made, which player is likely to have the biggest impact?

According to Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton, of all the acquisitions, free safety Nasir Adderley is Los Angeles’ most dangerous new weapon.

Here is what Moton had to say about listing Adderley as the newbie that should have the most impact:

The Los Angeles Chargers have landed a safety early in the draft in consecutive years. In 2018, Derwin James fell to the club at No. 17. Now, the front office may have acquired a complement to the All-Pro with the 60th overall pick this year.

At Delaware, Nasir Adderley transitioned from cornerback to safety for his junior year and became a ball hawk, registering nine interceptions over the last two seasons. He also listed second on the team in solo tackles (48).

If Adderley wins the starting safety job over Rayshawn Jenkins and Adrian Phillips, he’s going to erase drives with game-changing takeaways in pass defense.

It’s no surprise that Adderley earned the label. He’s easily been the fan-favorite in terms of draft selection and new addition to the team because L.A. hasn’t had a solid free safety since Eric Weddle.

The former Delaware product is the ideal centerfielder who has great lateral agility and can track down passes very well. He didn’t play top-tier competition in the FCS, but he was able to read quarterbacks and show the acceleration to jump routes and make plays on the ball.

His skillset at the free safety position should easily translate to the next level but he does have the ability to be moved around a bit. He played cornerback early on in college and his smooth movement in his hips and feet reflect that. Because of that, Adderley may be asked to play a little bit as a slot corner in defensive coordinator Gus Bradley’s defense.

With Derwin James playing strong safety, Los Angeles now has a great complement in Adderley. They should form a dangerous safety duo on a stacked defense for years to come, starting in 2019.
