Who's Richard Mylan, what TV shows has he been in and who's he married to?

Welsh actor Richard Mylan recently admitted to a 20-year addiction to heroin. Richard, 48, who has been in recovery for 10 years has said that he was one of a "number of many functioning professional addicts." To read more about Richard's 20-year battle with addiction, click here.

The star, who now wants to raise awareness for drug addiction, has a long and successful career but who exactly is Richard Mylan? Mylan, born in November 1973, was born in Swansea. Acting wasn't always the path that he set out to pursue, having left his hometown to study dance in London at the age of 12.

His passion for footwork would later land him his first professional acting role in Andrew Lloyd-Webber's roller-skating musical, Starlight Express. Having initially played the smaller character of 'Flat-Top', he would later land a bigger role as, 'Electra the Electric Train'.

In 2004, Richard would appear in a role that would launch a successful television career - Oliver Morris in Coupling. The Welsh actor and his trademark curly hair featured in the fourth and final series of the show. Richard would later admit that people "struggled to warm" to his character in the Steven Moffat drama due to Jeff's (played by Richard Coyle) popularity.

Richard would go on to feature in many other successful television shows including Grownups (2007), Welsh drama Belonging (2006), as well as appearances in Where the Heart Is (2005-2006), The Bill (1998-2001) and Doctors (2004 & 2010). Most people will recognise Richard for his leading role as Simon Lowsley in Waterloo Road where he appeared in the 2013 and 2014 series of the school drama.

In recent years, Richard has presented two successful BBC documentaries centred around autism. Richard's son, Jaco, has a form of autism known as Pervasive Developmental Disorder. The film, Richard and Jaco: Life with Autism, won two BAFTAs and was praised for it's attitudes to autism. Since then, Richard has appeared in theatre productions at Cardiff's Sherman Theatre and tutored at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Richard is married to Tammie Mylan (nee Dineen). The pair met on the set of Waterloo Road whilst Tammie was working as a makeup artist. In 2016, they married after Richard proposed to her on a bench overlooking the River Clyde. Tammie, born in Dundee and has a baby son, Acen, with Richard. Meanwhile, Jaco, is Richard's son with former partner, actress Catrin Powell.

Prior to the birth of Acen, Tammie was diagnosed with cancer in March 2018. However, in November the same year, Richard confirmed that Tammie had been given the all-clear from her oncologist. Richard wrote on Twitter: "It's been a year of extremes with many twists and turns along the way."
