Who's recruiting: New jobs at Waitrose and Debenhams

Supermarket: Waitrose has announced plans to open a number of branches within the M25 next year, creating up to 1,000 jobs. There are plans to roll-out 20 "Little Waitrose" convenience stores in and around London by the end of 2012, according to a press release from the company. There are also plans to open two full-size supermarkets in Wimbledon and Stratford and a further five convenience stores by the end of this year, creating 600 more jobs, reports Bloomberg.

Retail: Debenhams has announced a recruitment drive as part of plans to refurbish 20 of its stores, reports the Mirror. The company is creating 600 new jobs, which will come from adding two concessions and three beauty counters per store as well as extra staff to cope with busier periods, according to The Grapevine Online.

Construction: More than 100 jobs are to be created in Kilmarnock as part of a £21m regeneration investment in the town centre. The Klin Group said the jobs would be in construction and professional services, reports the BBC. The company will be creating 26,500 sq ft of new offices and plans for the next phase of the project includes shops and offices.

Call centre: Broadcaster BskyB is creating 400 new jobs in Newcastle, according to The Northern Echo. The company is opening a new call centre, with jobs for sales and customer service staff, in October. A further 400 workers from The Listening Company (TLC) in Newcastle, which Sky presently outsources call centre work to, will transfer to become permanent employees of the satellite broadcaster. Elsewhere, call centre firm The Contact Company has announced that it will create 500 jobs on Merseyside by 2012, according the BBC.

Food and drink: Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has announced it is creating 650 jobs in a £20 million expansion involving 14 new pubs, reports the Shropshire Star. The additional outlets, which are due to open in the next month, will be in Swansea, Luton, Nottingham, East Didsbury, Bromley, Weston-super-Mare, Leighton Buzzard, Holywell, Newbury, Whitstable, Farnborough, Accrington, Todmorden and Wellington.

Business: Healthcare firm Alere is creating 100 jobs in Ireland over the next four years. The company is establishing a new international business service centre in Galway. Positions being created cover a wide range of activities including customer and technical support, finance, legal, vendor and logistics management, contract manufacturing management, quality assurance and regulatory affairs, reports the Irish Times.
