'Who's next?' Nottingham Forest challenge laid down after Brennan Johnson comments

Nottingham Forest director of professional development Gary Brazil has laid down the challenge to the club's rising stars following the continued rise of academy graduate Brennan Johnson.

David Johnson, the father of Brennan, confirmed in our recent Garibaldi Red podcast that talks are talking place regarding a new deal for the highly-rated 20-year-old.

The youngster has been in fine form this campaign, scoring nine goals and providing five assists, as the Reds battle for a promotion play-off place under boss Steve Cooper.

Johnson's impressive performances have caught the eye of Premier League side Brentford, who saw bids rebuffed by the Reds during the January transfer window.

As he enters the final 12 months of his contract in the summer, many fans have been wondering what is next?

Johnson Senior offered an update in the Garibaldi Red podcast, while addressing the January links.

"We knew Brennan was always going to stay through the January window. That was the fact of the matter," Johnson told Garibaldi Red podcast.

"I spoke to the owner last week and had a very good chat with him down in London. He was fantastic. He came across really well. He told me how he sees the club and its future.

"We said great, we'll carry on talks. There's 15 games to go so let's sit down and try to get something sorted by the end of the season, but it's so busy it will probably be by email or something.

"That's where we're at. Everyone thinks it's like deadline day and you have an hour to agree the contract.

"It's not. The club take their time. We're in no rush and everything is going really well. The club have been brilliant and we'll get there in the end."

Replying to a link to the podcast, Brazil said on Twitter: "Interesting comments from Brennan’s Dad. David has watched the Academy put the foundations in place for Brennan to prepare himself for elite football.

"The rest is down to the player and what a player Nottingham Forest now have on their hands. The challenge for the Academy is ‘who’s next’?"
