Who Northern Ireland football fans will be supporting at Euro 2020

The Green and White Army won't get to cheer on Northern Ireland at this summer's Euro 2020 finals.

Ian Baraclough's side missed out on qualification after losing to Slovakia in an agonising play-off final.

Fans had been hoping for a repeat of 2016 when they travelled in their thousands to France to cheer on the side.

So who will they be supporting at this year's championships?

Well, despite their big rivalry, research from 888 Sport has revealed that 64% of Northern Ireland fans will be backing England at the upcoming tournament.

Out of those fans who admitted to supporting the Three Lions, 35% will be rooting for Scotland as their ‘second team’, with a further 7% choosing to back Wales at the tournament.

Northern Ireland fans have also shown an unusual allegiance towards the Portuguese National Team, as 14% of supporters have claimed to be backing the reigning champions going into the tournament.

Predictably some fans shot down the prospect of supporting another nation, as 7% of the Norn Iron stated that is no way they could bring themselves to support any other nation, despite NI not qualifying.

The survey was completed on behalf of 888 Sport as part of the Euro 2020 campaign.
