Who Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs voted for in FIFA Best award

Ryan Giggs voted for fellow Manchester United great Cristiano Ronaldo to win the FIFA Best Player award, results have revealed.

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi scooped the award on Monday night at a star studded ceremony in Milan, while Virgil van Dijk finished second and Ronaldo came third.

Giggs voted for his former Old Trafford teammate to win the award, while he thought Messi was the second best player based on their performances this calendar year.

Ronaldo won Serie A in his first season with Juventus and also helped his country to glory in the inaugural edition of the Nations League.

However, it was Messi who won the award for a record sixth time after a sensational season which saw him net 54 goals as Barcelona won La Liga and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Giggs' voting was completed with a vote for Van Dijk after an incredible year which saw him win the Champions League with Liverpool as well as mount a serious Premier League title challenge.

Ronaldo, who was not allowed to vote for himself, snubbed both Messi and Van Dijk when selecting his own top three and instead voted for three of the brightest young talents in Europe.

The United favourite picked new Juventus teammate Matthijs de Ligt as his number one choice, with Frenkie de Jong in second and Kylian Mbappe as the third best player.
