Who Manchester United could play in the Europa League group stage

Manchester United will thank neighbours Manchester City for sparing them the inconvenience of having to compete in a Europa League qualifying tie in July.

City's FA Cup final win over Watford meant United take England's place in the Europa League group stage rather than the Hornets, with Wolves now taking their place in qualifying.

So Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will now be free to play their scheduled friendly against Spurs in Shanghai at the end of July, and will enter the group stage of the competition they won back in 2017.

And as domestic seasons draw to a close across Europe, United's possible opponents are being confirmed before the qualifying stage begins as early as June 27.

United will also face losers from Champions League qualifying, who enter the Europa League group stage.

Who has been confirmed for the Europa League group stage so far?

Eleven teams have so far confirmed their place in the group stage, including United and Arsenal. However, should the Gunners beat Chelsea in the Europa League final, they will earn a place in the Champions League instead.

United join Getafe, Sevilla, Lazio, Borussia Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg, Rennes, Saint-Etienne, Sporting, and KV Mechelen of Belgium in already reaching the group stage.

They will be joined by the 5th placed team in Italy, winner of the Russian Cup, and third placed finishers from Ukraine, Turkey, Switzerland and Austria.
