Who Manchester United could face in Champions League draw compared to Man City, Liverpool & Chelsea

Manchester United are in the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time since the 2018/19 season.

The Reds are looking to kickstart their season under new boss Ralf Rangnick after a turbulent end to Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s tenure.

United finished top of Group F which often leads to a much more favourable draw in the next round, but there are still some tricky opponents that could line up against United in the next round.

Here’s the potential teams that United and their main rivals could face in the next stage of the competition ahead of this morning's draw.

United’s potential opponents for the Round of 16 are PSG, Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Inter Milan, Benfica or Red Bull Salzburg.

In comparison, here’s who United’s main rivals could face.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool became the first English team to win all six group stage matches when they sealed a 2-1 victory against AC Milan at the San Siro.

Liverpool can be drawn against PSG, Sporting Lisbon, Benfica, Atalanta or Villareal, Inter Milan or Red Bull Salzburg.

Manchester City

The Blues are looking to go one step further this season after losing to Chelsea in last year’s final. They seen off PSG, Red Bull Leipzig and Club Brugge in the group stage to finish top of Group A.

Pep Guardiola’s men can be drawn against Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Atalanta or Villareal, Inter Milan, Benfica or Red Bull Salzburg.

Chelsea

The reigning champions of Europe only needed to match Juventus’ result in order to clinch top spot in Group H, but a 3-3 draw away at Zenit St. Petersburg and Juve’s 1-0 home win against Malmo, bumped Chelsea into second place, with some potentially mouth-watering clash to come for Thomas Tuchel’s team.

Chelsea’s potential opponents for the Round of 16 are Bayern Munich, Ajax, Real Madrid or Lille

The draw will be live on BT Sports on Monday, 13 December.
