Manchester City are looking to go one step further this year in the Champions League after narrowly losing 1-0 in last year’s final against Chelsea.
Despite losing against PSG in Paris, Pep Guardiola’s men won the return fixture at the Etihad Stadium and managed to edge out the French giants to finish top of Group A to reach the knockout stages again.
As group winners, City can be drawn against Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Inter Milan, Villarreal, Benfica or Red Bull Salzburg.
In comparison, here’s who City’s main rivals could face as they and their rivals prepare for this morning's last-16 stage draw in Nyon.
Manchester United
United wrapped top spot in Group F with one game to spare which allowed new boss Ralf Rangnick to give chances to fringe players and some young stars to impress him during the 1-1 home draw against Young Boys.
United could face PSG, Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Inter Milan, Benfica or Red Bull Salzburg.
Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool became the first English team to boast a perfect group stage record of six wins out of six after their 2-1 win at the San Siro against AC Milan.
Liverpool can be drawn against PSG, Sporting Lisbon, Benfica, Villarreal, Inter Milan or Red Bull Salzburg.
Chelsea
Thomas Tuchel’s men, who beat City in last year’s final, looked set to finish top of Group H but a surprise 3-3 draw at Zenit St. Petersburg handed top spot in the group to Juventus. Chelsea would be hoping to avoid Bayern Munich or Ajax who, along with Liverpool, are the only teams to not drop a single point in the group stage.
Chelsea’s potential opponents for the Round of 16 are Bayern Munich, Ajax, Real Madrid or Lille.
The draw will be live on BT Sports on Monday, 13 December.
