Who Liverpool could play in Community Shield after Premier League title win

Liverpool could face one of a potential four sides in the Community Shield ahead of the 2020/21 season.

The match is always played between the current holders of the FA Cup and defending Premier League champions.

If both domestic competitions are claimed by the same team then the runners-up in the league are entered to play.

Since the Reds claimed the Premier League title as football resumed after the coronavirus pandemic, they are automatically entered into the game which will take place at Wembley in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp's side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Chelsea in the fifth round and so they know any of the four teams remaining in the competition could be lining up to face them in the capital later this year.

The teams in this year's final are:

Arsenal v Chelsea

The FA Cup final is due to take place on Saturday, August 1, after the competition was also put on hold alongside the Premier League since the outbreak of COVID-19.

That result will confirm Liverpool's opponent when bidding to claim the first piece of silverware ahead of the next campaign.

It is yet to be confirmed when the Community Shield 2020 or the Premier League 2020/2021 season will begin.

This season's Champions League and Europa League are also due to be completed in August and could cause issues with preparations for the Community Shield.

Although there should be no issues with who Liverpool will face as neither Arsenal or Chelsea are involved in this season's Champions League.
