WHO: Lanarkshire is one of Europe's worst-hit Covid hot spots

Lanarkshire recorded 1138 new positive Covid tests yesterday, as the World Health Organisation (WHO) confirmed it is the worst-hit subnational region for Covid-19 in Europe.

Over the previous seven days, 7706 people tested positive across Lanarkshire, with a total of 73,556 people testing positive in total.

Sadly, one person also died in Lanarkshire on Thursday, bringing the total deaths in the region to 1398.

There were also six more people in hospital with Covid than on Wednesday, a total of 104, with eight of those in ICU.

This news comes as the World Health Organisation (WHO) said that Lanarkshire is the worst-hit subnational region for Covid-19 in Europe.

The ranking is based on infections per 100,000 people. Over the past seven days, cases in Lanarkshire have more than doubled to a rate of 1164 per 100,000 people.

Closely behind on the list is Greater Glasgow and Clyde, which has 1077 cases per 100,000 people.
