Who is Younousse Sankharé? Nottingham Forest 'target' profiled

Nottingham Forest have been linked with Bordeaux midfielder Younousse Sankhare, according to France Football.

The 29-year-old midfielder, who has 373 career appearances to his name, is said to have no future at his Ligue 1 club ahead of the new season and is currently exploring a number of options abroad.

But who is he, how has he wound up linked with the Reds and how much would he cost Sabri Lamouchi?

Who is he?

As a youngster, Sankhare started his professional career with Paris Saint-Germain, his hometown club, back in 2007.

Despite minor participation in their cup campaigns, the central midfielder would win the French League Cup and the Coupe de France during his time in the capital, before he was loaned out to Reims and Dijon.

During this time he would turn out 14 times for France U21s, scoring three goals.

His second loan club, Dijon, were impressed enough to lodge a 500,000 euro bid and Sankhare made the permanent move to the Stade Gaston Gerard in 2011.

But his time in Dijon was far less impressive second time around, and he spent the latter half away on loan with Valenciennes.

Next he would join Guingamp, for 700,00 euros, where he lifted the Coupe de France for the second time and received international recognition from Senegal.

A season at Lille would follow, before he made the 3m euro switch to Bordeaux.

An impressive debut campaign, that saw him bag three goals in his first four games, helped the club qualify for last season's the Europa League.

But although the 29-year-old found the net against Copenhagen, and played his part in victories over Zenit St. Petersburg and Slavia Prague, Bordeaux crashed out at the group stages.

In 265 career Ligue 1 appearances, France's most competitive division, Sankhare has scored 28 goals and assisted 22 times.

What is his style of play?

The physical, aggressive Frenchman is more of an all round midfield player than a holding or attacking midfielder.

Standing at 6ft tall, he is a box to box player who is comfortable moving the ball and dealing with players running at him.

However, he can be slow off the ball and is not particularly quick with his feet.

Will he join the Reds this summer?

While this deal seems a long way from happening at the moment, the midfielder has reportedly been told by boss Paulo Sousa that he no longer has a future with Bordeaux.

For many, strengthening the midfield remains low on Forest 's list of priorities and this link has clearly emerged following the appointment of Lamouchi - who faced Sankhare twice during his time in charge at Rennes.

The Reds are not the only club linked with a move, though. Spanish side Villarreal are also keen according to L'Equipe.

TransferMarkt value the midfielder at 5m euros (£4.5m).
