‘Who is we?’: California woman orders a Wayfair professional to assemble her furniture. She can’t believe who shows up

A California woman pays extra to have a Wayfair professional carry a heavy box of furniture into her home and assemble it. However, she says two men showed up instead of the woman who was scheduled to come.

In a video with over 131,000 views, TikToker Veronica (@everydayveronica) says she placed an order for a bookshelf, which was scheduled to be delivered and assembled by a woman named “Latasha” through the Wayfair professional assembly program at 2:30 p.m.

The added service uses vetted contractors from third parties who can pick up jobs as Wayfair customers place orders, according to the furniture chain’s website.

However, Veronica suspects that some workers have figured out how to bypass the vetting process before picking up jobs.

She says she messaged “Latasha” through the Wayfair app when she didn’t show up for the scheduled appointment time. Over an hour later, a strange van pulls up, and two men get out.

Why did the Wayfair professionals make her uncomfortable?

Veronica says she immediately noticed that the two men were “disheveled” and appeared intoxicated. She asks them if they are “Latasha” and tries to stop them from entering her home, as she is unsure they are the right people.

“I’m like, ‘Well, I can’t let anyone that’s not Latasha in.’ And then they pushed past me and go into my house. There are two men, and it’s just me,” she recounts.

She keeps asking the men whom she can talk to about the confusion, as they look around her house and continue to bicker with each other. One of the men says he doesn’t have the right tools to assemble her furniture and needs to go to Home Depot.

“I instantly felt unsafe,” she admits. “I was trying to use any excuse to get out of it.”

She calls her friend, who works in law enforcement, to ask what she should do. Her friend suggests that she get the men to leave and lock her doors.

When she asks them to leave, one man grabs his bag and runs out of her house. However, one of the men stays and tries to “reason” with Veronica to let him complete the job.

“I was like, ‘No, you need to leave. I’m going to reschedule this,'” she says. “I finally get him out and I lock the door.”

Veronica worries that the men have her number, name, address, and the layout of her home.

“I feel vulnerable,” she says. “Wayfair, how is this a thing where someone named Latasha can send two strange men into my house?”

In a follow-up video, she responds to a DM from Wayfair, noting that the furniture chain refunded her entire order and scheduled a new professional to build her furniture. She encourages the company to further vet its contracted Wayfair professionals.

Have others had similar experiences with Wayfair?

In the comments, other shoppers say they’ve had similarly uncomfortable experiences using Wayfair professionals.

“I had a sketchy delivery from a Wayfair order too. They don’t work for Wayfair. It’s just people trying to make money from deliveries. My delivery person dropped my sofa, complained about the weight, and started pressuring for a good tip. It was uncomfortable,” one says.

“Wayfair couldn’t be worse. A horrible situation happened with the same service where the man asked me for gas money. I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy,” another shares.

Others suggest ways the men could have used “Latasha”‘s Wayfair account to take the job.

“All these platforms have people that buy and sell profiles because people can’t pass the checks. Door dash, Instacart, Wayfair, Amazon, every single place that contracts remotely have no actual verification that the person using the account to provide the services are the actual people,” a commenter writes.

“Sounds like Latasha signed up bc her bf got denied and she sends him to the jobs to do…,” another suggests.

“Seams like wayfair is using independent contractors , Latasha was probably the person actually enrolled and can bid for jobs but she is having other people do the work for her. Definitely scary and unpredictable!!” a third adds.

@everydayveronica Can y’all please tag @Wayfair @wayfairprofessional? Not really sure what my options are since the people have all of my info. @wayfair this cannot happen to anyone else. Do better. #wayfair #beware #singlemom ♬ original sound – Everyday Veronica ☻
