Who is top of FIFA world rankings? England position and best World Cup team

With the 2022 World Cup in Qatar now just days away Gareth Southgate is once again tasked with leading England to glory.

Having come agonisingly close at EURO 2020 following a penalty shootout defeat to Italy in the final, the Three Lions look galvanised once more to end England's 56-year wait for a major trophy. Tournaments favorites Brazil look in fine form heading into the competition while current holders France always pose a threat.

Belgium, Holland and Argentina are all in fine form as of late, joining England, France and Brazil inside the current top 10 of FIFA's world rankings. The listing which is based on a points system on international form ranks every country from top to bottom based on their current performances.

Brazil, having only lost once so far this calendar year lead the way, with Selecao also failing to lose during their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign. Belgium in second place with Lionel Messi's Argentina in third place heading into the Qatar tournament.

France and England make up the top five, whilst reigning European champions Italy are in sixth, despite not qualifying for the competition. Spain are in the seventh spot and will be looking to claim a second title following their 2010 success in South Africa.

7 - Spain

8 - Netherlands
