Who is Tiago Silva? Nottingham Forest transfer target profiled

Nottingham Forest are looking to add Portuguese midfielder Tiago Silva to their ranks ahead of the new season.

The 26-year-old with the Frenchman said to be keen to add some pace a flair to his Reds midfield.

But who is he and how has he wound up linked with a move to the Championship?

His career so far

Silva's career started in his hometown with SL Olivais, where he was spotted by giants Benfica as an 11 year old.

After five years with the club, the right-footed midfielder was released by the club and was snapped up by Belenenses, who offered the teenager his first professional terms.

The young talent was instantly influential for the Lisbon club and helped them to achieve promotion back to the top flight.

In 97 games he scored eight goals for O Belem, and in 2016 made the two-year loan switch to Feirense, which he would later make permanent.

Last summer Silva penned a three-year deal in Santa Maria, but now just 12 months on, he is set to leave the club with a City Ground move seemingly on the cards.

How does he play?

A tricky Portuguese central midfielder, Reds fans could be forgiven for thinking that the club are preparing themselves to replace Joao Carvalho, should his recent injury prove worse than first feared.

But Silva and Carvalho are two very different types of midfielder.

While both may have a turn of pace and are at their very best when on the ball, Silva prefers a role that is deeper in the midfield.

The 5ft 9in talent can pick passes from range and is strong with both his left a right foot.

Where does his future lie?

The midfielder has two years left on his current deal in Portugal, after joining Feirense this time last year, but back in May Portuguese outlet O BOLA had tippled Silva to leave this summer.

The report claimed that a Saudi Premier League side were leading the race to land the 26-year-old in a deal that would see his current club 'duly rewarded financially'.
