Who is the UK Eurovision entry? Speculation heightens on act after ticket announcement

Spec7ulation has heightened as to who will represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest this year, after an announcement was made on how to get tickets for the event on Thursday.

While it was the Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra who emerged victorious in Turin last year, due to the conflict in the war torn country, it was decided by the European Broadcasting Union that Ukraine couldn't host this year's event, with the BBC picking up the baton for the UK, after Sam Ryder finished second last May.

Once that news was confirmed, cities across the nation then bid to stage Eurovision 2023 and in the end it was Liverpool who emerged victorious, beating Glasgow in the final reckoning. Liverpool completed its first bit of official Eurovision business last month, with the handover ceremony and semi final draw. And then on Thursday came the news that many fans of the annual event had been waiting for - how to get tickets for Eurovision.

One important announcement that has still to be made is just who will represent the UK on home turf, with a news wset to arrive in the coming week.

Who is the UK Eurovision entry this year?

Judging by the buzz on Twitter, the race has been narrowed to three artists - Birdy, Freya RIdings, Mimi Webb, Mae Muller and Rina Sawayama.

Birdy is the singer who rose to prominence thanks to her song Skinny Love over a decade ago, before going onto land more radio and chart hits with the likes of Wings, Keep Your Head Up and Sigma collaboration Find Me.

Birdy is being tipped for Eurovision (Daily Record)

Her new track Raincatcher is released on Friday, March 3, with the timing of the launch not lost on Eurovision fans, given that the announcement on Sam Ryder arrived at around the same time last year. Bookies have also made her the favourite to fly the flag in Liverpool.

Since she tasted huge success with her song Lost Without You, Freya has put her distinctive vocals to on other hits, including Castles and more recent smash Weekends. Many fans really want Freya to get the nod for Eurovision, but think it will be with her newer release Face in the Crowd.

Rina Sawayama on Graham Norton (BBC)

Rina iis one of the breakout stars of the last few years, thanks to her two albums to date and tracks like This Hell, Frankenstein and Holy (Til You Let Me Go), with the latter some people's prediction for the UK's 2023 Eurovision entry.

Mimi Webb, who appeared on Saturday Night Takeaway at the weekend, has so far had chart hits with the likes of House on Fire and Red Flags and has just released debut album Amelia.

And finally, Mae has fuelled theories that her track I Wrote a Song is this year's entry, after she was spotted at the Radio 1 studios.
