Who is the referee for the Republic of Ireland v Denmark? All you need to know about the man in the middle

The man in the middle for Ireland's crucial Euro 2020 qualifier with Denmark will be Felix Brych.

Brych, 44, from Munich, Germany, is a very experienced referee in both club and international football.

He started refereeing in the Bundesliga in 2004 and took charge of his first international match - Romania v Luxembourg - in October 2007.

In 2014, he was in charge of the Europa League final between Sevilla and Benfica that the Spanish side ended up winning on penalties.

Three years later and Brych refereed the 2017 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Juventus in Cardiff.

He has officiated at the last two World Cups and Euro 2016.

Brych should be a familiar face to Ireland fans having refereed three matches involving the Boys in Green.

They were all memorable occasions too with the first the opening leg of World Cup playoff against France in Dublin in 2009.

Of course, the second leg at the Stade De France was infamous for referee Martin Hansson allowing a French winner in extra-time despite the ball being handled by Thierry Henry in the build-up.

Brych was also the man in the middle in Moscow in 2011 when Richard Dunne put on a heroic display to keep the Russians out.

And the German official refereed Ireland’s 1-1 away draw against Bosnia in the Euro 2016 playoff when Robbie Brady emerged from the fog after bagging a vital away goal.

Brych is also a qualified doctor of law, having written his doctorate about sport.
