Who is the girl in the John Lewis advert? Meet rising star actress Raffiella Chapman

It's that time of year again. The John Lewis Christmas advert is here.

The release of the advert means only one thing — Christmas is approaching.

Previous ads have featured iconic moments including Monty the Penguin, a sad old man on the moon and the journey of a very determined snowman.

This year it's all about space travel.

The star of the show — 14 year old Raffiella Chapman — will be a familiar face to some.

The child actress already has a range of roles under her belt and an impressive career to date.

Here's everything you need to know about Raffiella Chapman...

Who is Raffiella Chapman?

14-year-old Chapman is already used to the big screen, having featured in a number of films.

She plays the space-traveller Skye in the advert, but has also portrayed Lucy Hawking in The Theory of Everything alongside Eddie Redmayne.

She also starred as Claire Densmore in Tim Burton's 2016 film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

She could soon be well-used to fame, with her appearance not only in the John Lewis Christmas advert, but in a lead role in upcoming dystopian sci-fi movie Vesper Seeds, which will also star actors Eddie Marsan, Richard Brake and Melanie Gaydos.

Chapman has also been in Catherine Bowker in the TV mini series Trauma, with John Simm, as well as roles on His Dark Materials, and Law and Order: UK.

What is in the advert?

'Unexpected Guest' and is described as "a joyful story of friendship" (PA)

The two minute advert is titled 'Unexpected Guest' and is described as " a joyful story of friendship, which celebrates the magic of Christmas moments experienced for the first time".

The advert follows Nathan, who meets a space traveller friend, Skye, who lands near his home.

John Lewis said: "T heir friendship develops as Nathan introduces Skye to many of his family’s festive traditions and brings them to life for her in the woods.

"They decorate the tree with fairy lights, celebrate the tradition of eating and hosting together, as he encourages her to try her first mince pie, and he also introduces her to the joy of thoughtful gifting by giving her his Christmas jumper."

"Through these shared moments, we see the magic of Christmas through the eyes of someone who has never experienced it before."

Meanwhile, Lola Young sang this year's tune to accompany the advert, which is a cover of Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder's 'Together In Electric Dreams'c.
