The 24-year-old Olympian and gymnast Simone Biles withdrew herself from the all-around women’s team final, Sunday’s vault, the uneven bars, and the floor final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The decision to leave came after the world-class gymnast performed her vault routine.
Simone was seen leaving the area with her coach, before returning to inform her teammates that she would no longer be competing.
The gymnast decided to withdraw from the 2020 Olympics in order to focus on her mental health after a medical evaluation determined she was not ready to compete any further.
Simone was strong enough to prioritise her mental health and well-being - despite the pressure that the Olympic games bring.
Even though she left the competition early, she stayed to cheer on her teammates, helping them with their chalk and encouraging them through their own routines.
Alongside the support of her friends and family who would be watching at home, Simone also has the support of her NFL player boyfriend, Jonathan Owens.
The pair met during the pandemic, making their relationship official in August 2020.
It began in March when 26-year-old Jonathan “slid” into Simone’s DM’s where she reportedly thought he was “pretty cute” and continued to talk.
They met up a week or two later, spending time getting to know each other.
Olympians like Simone will have had unexpected time on their hands due to the postponement of the 2020 Olympics.
Later on, with the help of Simone’s younger sister, Adria, Jonathon was invited to a family lake house trip where they continued to build their relationship and Jonathon was soon invited to join Sunday family dinners.
Who is Jonathan Owens?
The professional football star played football in high school where he later attended Missouri Western State University.
He played football for the Arizona Cardinals in 2018 and a year later joined the Houston Texans practice squad.
Just a year later in 2020, his football career took off, and Jonathan was signed with the Texans as a defensive back.
Prior to signing with Texans, Jonathon suffered a knee injury that threatened his football career.
But after continuous hard work and persistent recovery Jonathan got back onto the pitch where he belonged - and he has continued to grow his football career with the Texans.
The sporting superstars have dated for a year and have gone from strength to strength as they show their support in each other’s sporting fields, regularly cheering each other on.
They are also seen frequently admiring and loving each other on their social media, posting many cute couple pics.
Talking about their relationship Simone told US Magazine “We vibe on the same level. We have the same kind of humour.
“We’re both athletic. We’re both elite athletes, so we definitely get each other. It was like it was meant to be”.
Speaking out about their relationship Jonathan told Texas Monthly “We ended up hanging out right before the pandemic.
“It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn’t do anything. So we used it to get to know each other — really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger.”
