Chen, 45, has represented Scarborough North since 2015 and said he will step down on 15 August after more than a decade in federal politics.

In a statement posted on X, Chen said he suffered significant health problems after a motor vehicle accident while travelling to Ottawa in late 2025.

“After discussing the situation with my family, I have decided that it is best for me to step down as a Member of Parliament.”

He described his time in Parliament as the “greatest privilege and honour” of his career and said he hoped his successor would enjoy representing the riding as much as he did.
