Who is Sam Bennett's wife and what does he earn for Tour de France green jersey?

Sam Bennett is the name on everyone's lips in Irish sport after he secured the Tour de France green jersey.

The 29-year-old's points classification triumph is the first by an Irishman since Sean Kelly in 1989.

He beat world champion Mads Pedersen in a sprint finish to take his second stage win of the Tour today, having already wrapped up the points classification at the intermediate sprint of the 122km stage from Mantes-la-Jolie.

Who is Sam Bennett?

Sam was born in Belgium where his dad Mike was a professional footballer but moved to Ireland at the age of four.

He was raised in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, where Irish cycling great Sean Kelly also hails from.

Is he married?

Bennett married his wife Tara last year, a talented athlete in her own right, described as 'a very talented high jumper, and a good sprinter in athletics' in the Irish Times this week.

Tara had a brilliant reaction to today's win, tweeting: "Somebody fu***ng pinch me. This can't be real."

What does he earn for his Tour de France green jersey win?

Bennett earns €25,000 for winning the points classification and takes €1,500 for each sprint win, as well as €300 for every day he held the green jersey.

The Tour de France 2020 total prize money stands at €2,293,000 and this year's overall winner, 21-year-old Tadej Pogacar, lands a cool €500,000.
