Who is Ronald Gordon? Hibs’ new majority shareholder profiled

He comes from the same country as Paddington Bear but Ronald Gordon is no work of fiction.

Instead, Hibernian’s new majority shareholder appears the real deal.

The Peru-born businessman swept to power at Hibs , replacing Rod Petrie as chairman after buying out Sir Tom Farmer’s controlling interest.

Although brought up thousands of miles away and making his millions in the United States, Gordon remains fiercely proud of his Scottish stock.

His grandfather emigrated to South America in 1908 and Gordon has been a football fan all his life.

He also appears to be rather adept at making money.

Gordon was founder and principal shareholder of ZGS Communications, which operated 10 TV stations in the States, and took charge of Atari in the mid-70s. But for the self-made man, industry was no game.

It was a serious business and he also founded John Marshall Bank, one of the leading community banks operating in the Washington DC area.

Today it is said to have assets of more than $1.4billion.

The company formed to acquire the share of Hibs is called Bydand Sports LLC.

In a nod to his Scottish roots, Bydand is the motto of Clan Gordon and is derived from "Bide and Fecht".

It means stay and fight, a call to arms Hibs fans and manager Paul Heckingbottom will surely appreciate.
