Who is Rhys Stephenson? Strictly Come Dancing confirms 'Buzzing' Blue Peter presenter

As BBC One’s popular dancing contest is about to raise its iconic glitter ball, the broadcast service has added CBBC presenter, Rhys Stephenson to the celeb line-up.

Rhys is now Strictly Come Dancing ’s fifth famous person.

The 28-year-old will join a highly anticipated cast featuring John Whaite, AJ Odudu, Robert Webb and Tom Fletcher.

Despite appearing on BBC’s children channel and presenting live from CBBC HQ, Rhys is a personality that has yet to be discovered.

In comparison to the other Strictly's cast, the bubbly presenter does not have an extensive following on social media - at time of writing, his Instagram page is followed by 5,214 people.

Rhys' social media account shows him to be a kind-hearted person with a visible interest in animals and helping children.

Strictly Come Dancing have confirmed that the latest celebrity to join the 2021 line-up is CBBC host Rhys Stephenson (CBBC)

As a matter of fact, the Londoner is an ambassador to Place2Be, a children mental’s health charity where he works on various projects such as Place2Be’s Art Room ‘From River to Sea’ activity, and the BAFTA Kids at Home with Place2Be.

CBBC fans will recognise the energetic man as the presenter to some of the channel’s biggest programmes including Blue Peter, and other famous programmes including Newsround, Dengineers and Saturday Mash-Up!

Rhys began his TV presenting career back in 2013 when he landed a gig on his university’s television channel.

During the same year, he joined the National Youth Theatre, where he performed alongside Matt Smith, Hugh Bonneville and Jessica Hynes.

Now, following a busy schedule where he is not only training to become the best dancer, but also planning on pursuing his already well-established TV career, Rhys revealed that he would still be a presence on the CBBC channel.

“I can't just abandon CBBC, I probably won't be on as much, obviously because I'll be rehearsing, but I can't stay away from Hacker the dog that long," Rhys explained.

According to the TV personality’s Instagram page, Rhys and Hacker - the dog puppet introduced on the kids' programme, Scoop - spend a lot of time together, when the presenter is, of course, not busy taking pictures with actual dogs.

"I am BUZZING to be a part of Strictly Come Dancing 2021,” Rhys said.

He added: “I have dreamt about being on this show, and I know for a fact that it is going to exceed every expectation.”
