After a 20-year-long career, Wednesday September 15 marked Louise Minchin’s official last day as a co-host on BBC Breakfast.
Louise Minchin joined the BBC in 2001 in a freelance capacity before replacing Sian Williams as a regular news anchor in 2006.
Minchin announced that she would be leaving the nation’s most-watched breakfast show earlier this year in June with her official departure last week.

Her emotional statement live on-air began: “Let me take a deep breath, everybody there is something I want to tell you about.”
Why did Louise Minchin leave BBC Breakfast?
Despite declaring her admiration for the “huge, enormous BBC Breakfast family” which she “loved being a part of.” Louise Minchin has decided that it’s time for her 20-year run on BBC Breakfast to come to an end.
In the statement announcing her resignation in June she told viewers: “’I've decided that it is time that I stop setting my alarm for 3.40 - sometimes if I’m feeling really rebellious 3.46 in the morning - and I’m going to be leaving the programme.
"Before anything else, I wanted to thank everybody who is watching for your loyalty and support over all these years. I have absolutely loved being part of it and I will really miss it but it’s time now to stop that alarm early in the morning. Thank you for watching all these years.”
Who is replacing Louise Minchin on BBC Breakfast?
As of yet, Louise Minchin’s BBC Breakfast replacement is still unknown but several other UK journalists have been tipped for the role.
Amongst them is Sally Nugent who works on the show already as the main relief presenter and has previously filled in for Louise in December 2020.
Eamonn Holmes, Piers Morgan and Kay Burley are some of the other favourites to join the morning news show.
Recently, the BBC also advertised the job vacancy on their careers website, and said they were looking for someone to “work with Dan Walker, Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt on the UK’s most-watched morning show”.
Applications for the job closed on September 12 so we may still have a while to go before Louise’s official replacement is announced.
What is Louise Minchin doing next?
Louise has also shared what is coming next in a brief chat with Dan Walker.
“You were really worried, weren’t you? About talking about [the menopause],” he said.
“I was really worried,” Louise replied.
“One of the things I can tell you that I’m doing after I leave, is I’m doing a programme about menopause for World Menopause Day.”
“That’s about the only piece of information she’s given anybody,” Dan admitted.
