Who is Rafa Mir? Nottingham Forest target profiled

Nottingham Forest are closing in on a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Rafa Mir.

The 22-year-old has been in England for eighteen months, since moving to Molineux from Valencia in 2018, but is yet to make a name for himself on these shores.

So who is he? And is he the answer to the Reds striker crisis?

Who is he?

The striker started his career playing for local futsal sides in Spain where he was spotted by Barcelona and signed up for La Masia.

Two seasons with the club's academy as a youngster ended with a move to Real Murcia and then Valencia, with whom he made his professional debut.

The Spain under-21 international impressed for both the club's youth side in the UEFA Youth League and Valencia B, but under boss Nuno Espirito Santo he was promoted to the first team for La Liga and Champions League outings.

Once Nuno had moved on to Porto, Mir dropped back into the team's B-side - but after his former manager became Wolves boss he soon made the move to join him in the East Midlands in a move that was reportedly watched closely by Real Madrid.

Mir has so far made four appearances for Wolves since penning a four-and-a-half year deal, including a 2-0 defeat at the City Ground in 2018, and was loaned out to Las Palmas last season where he saw a return to first team football - scoring seven goals.

Is he the answer to Forest's striker search?

Despite being known as a striker, Mir featured just as regularly in wide areas for Las Palmas last season, staring on the left five times and on the right nine times.

And during 15 appearances in a number nine role, Mir scored four goals.

But with Sabri Lamouchi's side desperate for a striker, and with Coventry said to be keen on landing Tyler Walker, Mir could prove an important back-up star to Lewis Grabban next season.
