Who is Nick Swardson? US stand-up comedian escorted off Colorado stage by security

A Colorado audience found a stand-up show from Nick Swardson was no laughing matter, with the comedian being escorted off stage amid boos.

Swardson, 47, has pledged to “make it up” to his Beaver Creek audience after the show on Sunday, March 4, which ended with his microphone being turned off.

Footage has gone viral of the set up to that point. It shows the routine falling flat and Swardson desperately trying to get the performance art centre’s crowd back onside.

After the house lights went on, the operations manager then came on stage and said: “We decided to conclude the show early in the best interests of those who bought tickets.

“We apologise for what you’ve seen tonight, please email the box office, we’ll be responding to inquiries and processing credits and refunds."

Swardson posted on X, formerly Twitter, afterwards that he had been hampered after drinking and taking “edibles” at high altitude.

“Travel tip: don’t drink and take edibles in high altitude. F**ing brain diarrhoea. I’ll make it up to you Beaver Creek.”

Who is Nick Swardson?

The Minnesota comedian made his name alongside his friend Adam Sandler in the 1990s, appearing in many of the actor’s films.

While not an established name in the UK, he has won fans in the US for his series Reno 911! in which he played Terry Bernadino.

He has remained on the stand-up comedy circuit while acting and is taking part in a Colorado tour this week. He performed in Aspen on Tuesday night (March 5).

However, he has blamed the footage of him drowning on stage for blighting his subsequent performances.

"Literally killed two shows last night," he said in a text to the Star Tribune. "This is the dumbest non-story ever."

Swardson has reportedly struggled with alcohol misuse, although he has been sober for periods.

He said in 2019: "My fans were kind of worried about me. They were posting online that I should dial it down a little. Not that I live and die by their comments, but I would look at pictures of me trashed at bars. I thought it was kind of funny for a while. But I looked horrible."
