Who is next to receive vaccine as more than 2.7m Scots get first dose

More than 2.7million people in Scotland have now received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine as the enormous roll-out continues.

The next phase of the vaccination programme is underway, with people over the age of 45 now being offered an appointment to get a jab.

The latest data released by the Scottish Government reports that 2,764,607 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination.

A total of 993,180 people have also received their second dose of the vaccine in Scotland.

The groups of people who have been given their first vaccination include care home residents, healthcare workers, extremely vulnerable Scots and people over the age of 49.

So, who is next on the list to get the vaccine in Scotland?

Everyone over the age of 50 should have received their first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The most vulnerable people in Scotland, healthcare workers and care home staff are also among the groups to receive the vaccine first under the Scottish Government’s rollout plan.

This includes:

  • Care home residents
  • Care home staff
  • Frontline health and social care workers
  • People who are clinically extremely vulnerable (those on the shielding list)
  • People aged 80 or over
  • People aged 75-79
  • People aged 70-74 (98%)
  • People aged 65-69
  • People aged 50-59

Who is currently being offered the coronavirus vaccine?

Scots between the age of 45 and 49 are now being offered a Covid-19 vaccine.

Those who are currently being invited or have already been invited to be vaccinated are:

  • Residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
  • Front line health and social care workers
  • Clinically extremely vulnerable individuals
  • everyone aged 50 and over
  • Those aged 16 to 64 with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality
  • All adults with a learning disability – mild, moderate, severe and profound
  • Unpaid carers aged 16 to 64
  • Household contacts of those who are severely immunosuppressed
  • Adults experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping
  • People aged 16 and 17 who are in health and social care JCVI Group 2, frontline health or social care worker

Underlying health conditions:

  • Chronic respiratory disease
  • Chronic heart disease and vascular disease
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Chronic neurological disease
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Immunosuppression
  • Asplenia or dysfunction of the spleen
  • Morbid obesity
  • Severe mental illness

Who will be offered the vaccine next?

Those aged 40 to 49 will be invited forward next, followed by 30 to 39 year olds and then 18-29 year olds.

People aged 18 to 49 will be invited to get their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine by the end of July, depending on vaccine supply.

How will I receive my invite for the vaccine?

Scots will receive an invitation letter or a phone call when they’re eligible to receive the vaccination.

If you are going to attend the appointment then you do not need to do anything to confirm that you’re going.

You can cancel or reschedule your appointment if you are unable to attend.

Patients will receive their second dose of the Covid vaccine between three to 12 weeks after the first. NHS Scotland will contact people once again with the appointment.
