Who is new Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi?

Nottingham Forest have appointed Frenchman Sabri Lamouchi for sacked manager Martin O'Neill.

The club parted company with the Northern Irishman after barely five months in charge.

But who is Lamouchi? And how has he landed his role at the City Ground?

French international

During his playing days, the midfielder turned out for a host of star studded clubs including Marseille, Parma and Inter Milan.

He was, however, at the peak of his powers during his time at Monaco, during which time he picked up 12 caps for his native France, scoring once.

Twice he won league titles in France, for Monaco and Auxerre before heading to Italy with Parma for 8m euros.

A move to Milan, and a loan spell with Genoa, followed before he finished his career in Qatar.

World Cup management

Three years after confirming his retirement from the game, he returned in his first managerial role with Ivory Coast.

During his first two years, he helped to steer them to qualification for the 2014 World Cup and kick-started their tournament with a 2-1 win over Japan.

But back-to-back defeats to Colombia and Greece saw his side knocked out of the tournament and he would later resign.

His up and down club record

Forest has become only the 47-year-old's third club as a manager.

His first was Qatari outfit El Jaish, who he lead to cup success in his second season in charge.

In 2017, he moved back to his native France to take charge at Rennes.

During his first season he was an instant success as the club finished fifth in Ligue 1, and qualified for the Europa League as a result.

But the following season the club endured a string of disappointing results as they won just four league games between August and December. As a result the Frenchman was sacked.

His role at the City Ground is his first since leaving, although he was linked with Dijon and Nantes.

Lamouchi is said to be a client of Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes.
