Liverpool youngster Neco Williams is in line to make his debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

as his side continue their quest for the Premier League title, while defending their Champions League crown.

A host of youngsters are likely to get some much-needed minutes on the board, including Rhian Brewster and summer signings Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg.

Liverpool have confirmed young goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will start in goal.

But the new name on the scene is Williams, who is set to get his first-team bow at Anfield.

Background

Williams joined Liverpool at the age of six and has progressed through the ranks at Anfield.

Fellow youngster Ki-Jana Hoever got the nod against MK Dons in the previous round.

Hoever would likely have featured again but is away at the Under-17's World Cup with the Netherlands.

Williams was called up to train with the first team as a result and with Trent Alexander-Arnold getting a rest, the teenager is set to start.

What has been said about him?

During his time with Liverpool's academy, Steven Gerrard hailed the defender as "magnificent" after his injury comeback.

"I was excited about him last season when I shadowed Neil Critchley. He was giving a couple of years away in that team," Gerrard said.

Liverpool Under-23s boss Critchley told Goal : "If he gets his opportunity, it’ll be deserved and hopefully he does himself justice.

“Neco has been in and around the Under-23s last season, and he’s definitely improved his game

“I don’t worry about his temperament, he’s been a consistent performer for us for a season-and-a-bit and he’s gone up to Melwood and the first-team staff have been really pleased with him. He’s trained there and he’s stayed there, so that can only be a good thing."

What has he said?

Williams revealed he had the choice between Liverpool and Manchester United before joining the Anfield academy.

"I started when I was six-years-old at the pre-academy and when I was nine I had the choice to go to Liverpool or Manchester United,” he said.

“It was hard because me and the family are all United supporters but now being at Liverpool all these years I’ve turned into a Reds fan.

“I chose Liverpool because I got on with the lads there and felt more comfortable and just enjoyed it better.

“With Liverpool being a right back isn’t just about defending, it’s just as much about attacking, so you’re more like a right winger and I would say crossing is one of my strongest assets.”
