Who is my current MP ahead of the 2019 General Election?

It’s now just one day until Britain heads to the polls to elect a new Parliament.

By Friday morning (December 13) there will once again be 650 MPs ready to head back to Westminster after what has felt like a gruelling general election campaign.

Parliament was dissolved just five weeks ago at one minute past midnight on November 6.

Dissolution is the formal term for the end of a Parliament. It officially brings Parliament to a close ahead of a general election and every seat in the House of Commons become vacant.

This means there are no longer any MPs and those who were MPs cease to represent their constituents and lose access to parliamentary facilities and resources.

For those seeking re-election, they officially lose the title of MP and become known as candidates for the constituency.

In the Bristol region there are 10 constituencies being contested. In every single one of them the former MP is standing for re-election.

They are:

Labour candidate Thangam Debbonaire for Bristol West

Labour candidate Kerry McCarthy for Bristol East

Labour candidate Darren Jones for Bristol North West

Labour candidate Karin Smyth for Bristol South

Conservative candidate Jack Lopresti for Filton and Bradley Stoke

Conservative candidate Luke Hall for Thornbury and Yate

Conservative candidate Chris Skidmore for Kingswood

Conservative candidate Liam Fox for North Somerset

Conservative candidate John Penrose for Weston-super-Mare

Conservative candidate Jacob Rees-Mogg for North East Somerset

Government ministers remain in post and continue to run their departments when Parliament is dissolved which means cabinet members keep their titles.

This includes Jacob Rees-Mogg who is Leader of the House of Commons.

They are only replaced when a new government is formed following a general election.
