Who is Mo Gilligan? Brit Awards hosting job rests on shoulders of Masked Singer star

Mo Gilligan will tick a huge box on his career 'to do' list on Tuesday night when he hosts this year's Brit Awards.

Taking over from Jack Whitehall, Mo has the job of fronting the ceremony which will be held at London's O2 Arena and go out live on ITV from 8pm.

He will be introducing performances from the likes of Adele, Sam Fender and Little Simz, who are also three of the most nominated stars on this year's Brits nominees list.

By presenting the Brit Awards, Mo follows in the footsteps of the likes of Davina McCall, Ben Elton, Ant and Dec, The Osbournes, Cat Deeley and who could forget Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood in 1989?

Who is Mo Gilligan?

Mo, 33, is a stand up comedian from London.

Mo earned himself quite a following from uploading clips of his stand up to social media and then got a big breakthrough in 2017 when world famous rapper Drake posted a clip of Mo on his Instagram.

Mo is the co-host of The Big Narstie Show, alongside the British rapper, as well as The Lateish show which made its debut on Channel 4 in 2019.

In 2021, Mo took over from Ken Jeong as a panellist on the UK version of The Masked Singer. He is currently on screen in the new series alongside Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Rita Ora.

He was also on the panel for The Masked Dancer last year and was in the cast of Celebrity Gogglebox.

Mo was announced as the new Brits host at the end of November and commenting on landing the job, he said: “It’s an absolute privilege to host the 2022 BRIT Awards. I’m truly honoured to be asked.

"We’re already in the extensive planning stages and all I can say is, I promise we’re going to give it all we’ve got to create an incredible night for music fans everywhere. Let’s go!"
