Who is Matteo Tognozzi? Celtic's potential new director of football who has followed in father's footsteps

Celtic are reportedly targeting a move for Matteo Tognozzi as they look to appoint a director of football.

Goal claim the Hoops are 'considering' the Juventus scout for a newly created role at the Parkhead club.

Celtic are set for major surgery in the summer as Peter Lawwell's tenure comes to an end after 17 years.

Dominic McKay arrives from Scottish Rugby and he is reportedly planning a complete overhaul with a new director of football high on the agenda.

If that man is going to be Tognozzi, what's the story of his career so far?

Here's everything you need to know about the talent spotter.

Experience in Italy, Russia and Germany

Tognozzi started out as sports director in the lower leagues in Italy.

He joined Rosignano before having a spell at Pontedera.

Tognozzi's took the next step in his career as he moved to Zenit St Petersburg.

His time in Russia raised his profile and he started to get noticed by clubs around Europe as he made the switch to Germany.

He took on a more scouting-focused role at Bayer Leverkusen and then Hamburg.

A family affair

Tognozzi opted to pursue a career in football as he followed in his father Stefano's footsteps.

His dad worked for Empoli and took Matteo along to games as a child. He showed his pedigree to become a scout early on as he even recommended players to his dad at a young age.

Stefano worked under Luciano Spalletti at the Serie A side and followed him to Zenit in 2007, where Matteo would later link up with his old man.

Big move to Juve

Tognozzi was able to land a high-profile move to Juventus in 2017 and has been their chief scout ever since.

On paper, he fits the bill for a person looking to make the step up to a director of football role and certainly has a wealth of experience in the recruitment department.

It remains to be seen if he is open to a switch to the Scottish Premiership, however.
