Months after winning a first Major championship at the 2022 US Open, Matt Fitzpatrick met Katherine Gaal. In January 2023, the pair went public with their relationship. By the end of the year, the pair were engaged.
Gaal has been romantically involved Fitzpatrick for much of his recent success, watching on as he saw off Jordan Spieth in a playoff at the RBC Heritage to claim a first regular PGA Tour title and supporting the Sheffield-born man as he helped Team Europe to Ryder Cup success at Marco Simone in September 2023.
Fitzpatrick and Gaal then got married at All Saints Episcopal Church on October 18th 2024 near Bay Head Yacht Club in New Jersey, with all of the tables at the wedding breakfast named after golf courses.
Who Is Matt Fitzpatrick's Wife?
Katherine Shelby Gaal was born on August 15, 1991, in New Jersey and later went on to attend Pennsylvania State University.
Gaal graduated with a GPA of 3.67 and a double major in finance and broadcast journalism. Plus, she earned an Alternative Route to Teaching certification for K-6 and special education pupils.
In 2013, Gaal competed in the Miss New Jersey USA pageant and finished as first runner-up. The following year, she was presented with an Amity Award - a prize voted for by her fellow contestants.
From April 2019, Gaal has worked at data protection and data management software company, Commvault. She is currently a regional marketing manager for the south east of the United States - a position held since January 2021.
On her own LinkedIn page, Gaal describes herself as: "Extremely hardworking and ambitious individual who is able to work exceptionally well in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Goal-oriented, with an open-minded, positive attitude who can easily adjust to new learning experiences and situations."
Away from business, Gaal has previously been a tennis professional at the Bay Head Yacht Club in New Jersey while she has been known to join Fitzpatrick for the occasional round of social golf, beginning to take the game more seriously over the past year.
We do not know exactly how the pair met or when they began dating just yet, but Gaal first appeared on Fitzpatrick's social media at the start of 2023 in Hawaii at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Not long after, Gaal appeared in Fitzpatrick's episode of the Netflix docuseries 'Full Swing'. She would go on to feature in the second season of Full Swing as well in the episode following Alex Fitzpatrick, Matt's younger brother.
On September 9, 2023, Fitzpatrick shared an Instagram post with him embracing Gaal following their engagement. The caption simply read: "YES ❤️."
Since going public with their relationship, Matt Fitzpatrick and Gaal have also been seen together at Wimbledon - the Grand Slam tennis tournament in London.
Ahead of the 2025 Open Championship, Mrs Fitzpatrick wrote "I love you" and "MF is cute" on the side of his Titleist golf balls before surprising him with the gesture. It apparently inspired the Yorkshireman as he was one stroke off the lead at the halfway mark.
Fitzpatrick had been previously dating Deniz Khazaniuk (sometimes Khazan), a tennis player who achieved a career-high ranking on the WTA of 200 (Singles).
