London-born actress Amanda Abbington has been gracing our screens for more than two decades now and her latest role is as a desperate mother in Channel 5's Desperate Measures. The four-episode mini-series sees Amanda as Rowan Taylor whose son gets into some bother with drug kingpins and the efforts she goes to, to get the family out of the pickle.
Desperate Measures comes hot on the heels of ITV comedy, The Family Pile, and the announcement the star will appear in the new series of Inside No. 9.
As well as working on several new TV projects, she's also on stage at the Criterion Theatre with Frances Barber and Reece Shearsmith in The Unfriend until April 16. What TV dramas has Amanda appeared in?
Amanda has had some notable roles since she first graced TV screens back in 1993 in an episode of The Bill. Her major roles include Mary Morstan in Sherlock, opposite ex-partner, Martin Freeman, and she was the sharp Ms Mardle in the ITV Sunday night drama, Mr Selfridge. She was also a regular in 2000s comedy Man Stroke Woman, 1990s cult football show on Sky, Dream Team and has had roles in Poirot, Being Human, Uncle and was series regular in Harlen Coben's Safe in Netflix.
Who is Amanda's famous ex?
As Mary in Sherlock, Amanda starred with The Hobbit, Black Panther and The Responder star Martin Freeman who she first met on set of Men Only in 2000. The couple have two children, Grace and Joe, and also starred in The Debt, The Good Night, The All Together, and Swinging with the Finkels together. The couple split in 2015 and have since said the split was amicable, with Amanda telling The Sunday Times in 2019: "We still get on really well, we still really both admire each other as actors... he’s a great guy, but we just couldn’t live with each other any more."

Who is Amanda engaged to?
Now Amanda has found love again with Pembrokeshire stunt performer, Jonathan Goodwin. The couple got engaged just weeks after meeting in person, but they'd been friends online for years. In October 2021 the now-retired daredevil experienced a life-changing fall while filming America's Got Talent: Extreme that left him paralysed from the waist down. It was just six weeks after the couple got engaged and Jonathan told Amanda he'd understand if she walked away from the relationship. But that was not to be and now the couple are due to be married this summer.
