Who is Martin Compston at Soccer Aid 2019 and why is he in the world team?

You may be used to him trying to catch up with bent coppers in Line of Duty but Martin Compston has swapped that comforts of AC-12 for the football pitch.

The actor, who has starred in all five series of the hit BBC One police drama as DC Steve Arnott, is back on Soccer Aid's World XI team as the star-studded sporting event heads to Chelsea FC's Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

And fans of Compston may be a bit surprised to see him in the World team.

That's because beneath his waistcoat wearing persona in LoD, the 35-year-old is actually Scotland born and bread - Greenock to be precise.

Doesn't he disguise his accent well?

Compston, who is an avid Celtic F.C. supporter, will be joined by fellow team mates including Usain Bolt, singer Nial Horan and Westlife's Nicky Byrne whilst being managed by Good Morning Britain's Piers Morgan and former footballer and manager Harry Redknapp.

He even has previous footballing experience having been signed by his local professional team when he left school.

Whilst it is all fun and games vital funds are also being raised for Unicef which helps to support the organisations work protecting children in the UK and globally.
