Who is Martell Taylor-Crossdale? The Chelsea academy prospect set to leave the Blues

Chelsea's academy proved their superb ability once again this season as they reached the final of the UEFA Youth League for another year.

However, they look set to lose one of their promising products with Martell Taylor-Crossdale's contract coming to an end this summer and with a move to Germany on the cards.

Reports are that the 19-year-old striker is set to leave Britain and follow in the footsteps of others to get his chance in the Bundesliga, making the switch to Hoffenheim.

That is where Arsenal's Reiss Nelson has been on loan this season, while Jadon Sancho is currently at Borussia Dortmund and Callum Hudson-Odoi is still being pursued by Bayern Munich.

But who is Taylor-Crossdale, and how much of a blow would it be to let him leave?

Taylor-Crossdale came through Chelsea's academy and played his first games for the youth team in the 2015/16 season as a scholar, netting eight goals in five appearances.

He ended that season with 21 goals in the league and clinching the U18 Premier League golden boot award.

As part of the youth set-up he also played in the Checkatrade Trophy, getting really useful experience against both League One and League Two sides.

The youngster has also been part of the England youth set-ups, being part of the squad that won the Toulon Tournament in 2017.

However, when it comes to the Development Squad this season, the youngster has been stuck behind Daishawn Redan and Charlie Brown in the striker's position.

In 2017, Taylor-Crossdale signed a two and a half year deal with the Blues, which runs out this summer and he is set to make his exit from the club.
