Who is Marios Siampanis? The young goalkeeper Nottingham Forest quietly acquired on deadline day

In the dying moments of Nottingham Forest's summer transfer window, the Reds managed to sneak a late deal to sign yet another goalkeeper - their third of the window - in under the radar.

Their quest to bolster their options between the posts was one of the biggest stories of their summer, as Sabri Lamouchi welcomed Aro Muric and Brice Samba to the City Ground despite the club already counting three first team shot stoppers among their ranks.

While Luke Steele departed to join Millwall on loan, Costel Pantilimon and Jordan Smith stayed with the club despite no realistic chance of game time.

But the Reds increased their goalkeeper tally a matter of minutes before the deadline as they welcomed Greek 'keeper Marios Siampanis.

So who is he? Why did he arrive at the City Ground? And why have the club kept his arrival so quiet?

Who is he?

Siampanis was this week named a Forest player on the club's official website, as a member Jimmy Gilligan's Under-23 squad.

The 19-year-old started his career in his home land with Pavlos Melas before joining PAOK as a 15-year-old.

After impressing for his nation at youth level, and turning out twice for his club's first-team, he was signed by Olympiacos on July 1, 2019, upon the expiry of his contract.

But just a month on from penning a four-year-deal with the Greek giants, he was welcomed to the City Ground.

Has he featured for the Reds Under-23s?

After being named on the bench for Forest's first three Under-23s clashes this season, against Bristol City, Queens Park Rangers and Millwall, Siampanis turned out for the Reds for the first time on Friday night.

The teenager was between the sticks for the club's 4-1 win at home to Cardiff City and pulled off an impressive save to deny a header from Bluebirds youngster Jack Bowdenham.

Why was his arrival kept so quiet?

While some clubs chose to do so, Nottingham Forest, as a rule, do not tend to announce to the arrival of players who enter the youth system.

Siampanis may now be a Forest player, but he is only a youth player and one signed with one eye on the future who remains far from the first team fold.
