Who is Lucas Herbert? Australian Irish Open leader with chance of glory at Mount Juliet

Lucas Herbert takes a one-shot lead into the final round of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Mount Juliet this afternoon.

25-year-old Australian Herbert has been in stellar form so far this week and will head out in the final group with American Johannes Veerman at 1:10pm.

Here's a quick look at the Aussie's background.

When did he turn pro?

Melbourne native Herbert turned professional in 2015 after a successful amateur career. He turned his attentions to the European Tour in 2018 and has a relatively successful debut season, coming close to winning on a number of occasions.

Has he won before?

Herbert's breakthrough win came three months ago when he claimed victory at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, beating South African Christian Bezuidenhout in a dramatic play-off.

Who else is in contention today?

American Veerman is one shot behind Herbert after shooting a 67 yesterday, while Herbert shot a two-under 70.

South African Justin Harding, a two-time winner on the European Tour, is lurking three shots off the lead.

There have already been some low scores on Sunday, with Shane Lowry shooting an impressive six-under 66 to finish the tournament at -9.

American Sean Crocker is also making early moves towards the top of the leaderboard and could provide a challenge.
