Who is Lorna Slater? The Scottish Greens co-leader

Lorna Slater isn't the best known name in Scottish politics.

But the Scottish Greens co-leader who joined Patrick Harvie and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon at the press conference in Bute House, Edinburgh, today is set to become more well known.

Co-leader Patrick Harvie is the most high profile Greens MSP and has been a mainstay of politics in Scotland for a number of years - but not much is known about Slater in comparison.

She first hit the TV screens during the Holyrood election campaign when she appeared on the Andrew Marr Show.

At the May election she was elected to Holyrood after winning a seat on the Lothian regional list.

So, what do we know about Slater?

Where was she born?

The co-leader was born in Calgary, Canada and moved to Scotland where she became an engineer.

While running for parliament she was still a engineering project manager at Orbital Marine power.

When did she become the co-leader?

Lorna Slater and Patrick Harvie were elected as co-leaders of the Scottish Greens in August, 2019.

The leaders replaced the previous co-convener position.

Slater defeated Maggie Chapman in the race to become co-leader.

When she was elected she said: "I look forward to contributing my expertise in marine renewable energy and manufacturing in Scotland to our proposal for a Scottish Green New Deal, ensuring that we take advantage of all the social and economic opportunities that come along with tackling the climate emergency."
