Who is Lee Duffy? Irish footballer who battled coronavirus- all you need to know

Irish footballer Lee Duffy recently explained how Covid-19 left him unable to breathe as he warned people to take coronavirus extremely seriously.

Messages of support flooded in from members of the public and from Duffy's former clubs after he opened up about his battle with the virus on social media.

Thankfully, Duffy got through the illness and has used his platform to share awareness.

Here is everything you need to know about the footballer.

Where is he from and what age is he?

Navan man Duffy is 28 years old.

Who has he played for?

Duffy took his first steps into League of Ireland football with Shelbourne in the 2014 First Division.

The striker netted three times for Shels in the second tier and earned a move to Drogheda United in 2015.

The Louth side were relegated to the First Division that season but Duffy notched seven goals in 26 games before making a move to Longford Town at the end of the year.

He played 11 times for Longford before moving on to Wexford in the First Division in 2017.

A second spell at Drogheda came in 2018 - with Duffy scoring three times in 18 games as Drogs missed out on promotion in the playoffs.

His most recent stints came in the NIFL Premiership for Warrenpoint Town and the NIFL Championship for Newry City AFC.

What has he said about his experience with Covid-19?

Duffy tweeted: "As some of you may or may not know, I tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago.

"I spent 8 days in hospital hooked up to oxygen as I could no longer breathe on my own, scared not knowing what was going to happen.

"Luckily I got through it and I’m starting to feel a lot better now.

"My advice to everybody is to not take this lightly, it is very serious."
