Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) had his first Vuelta a España title confirmed after the final stage in Madrid was cancelled due to protests. A day earlier, he had won solo on Bola del Mundo to increasine his lead to 1:16 over João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), with Tom Pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling) in third place.
Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) controlled the battle for the KOM jersey from the first week to the last, winning two stages in the race and claiming the mountains classification by five points over Vingegaard.
Lidl-Trek's Mads Pedersen won the points classification by 80 points over Vingegaard, featuring in several breakaways throughout the race and winning stage 15 into Monforte de Lemos.
Matthew Riccitello (Israel-Premier Tech) won the white jersey for best young rider at the very last with his strong performance on Bola del Mundo on stage 20, overhauling previous leader Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bul-Bora-hansgrohe).
