Who is leading the 2025 Vuelta a España after stage two?

Vuelta leader Jonas Vingegaard.

Jonas Vingegaard grabbed his first road stage victory of the year on the second stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España at Limone Piemonte and with it the race leader's red jersey.

The Visma-Lease a Bike leader just edged out Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) as they contested victory at the race's first summit finish, with David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) third and Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) fourth.

Vingegaard now leads Ciccone by four seconds, with Gaudu another two seconds further back in third.

Stage one winner Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) retained his lead in the points classification, although second-placed Ethan Vernon (Israel Premier-Tech) cut his advantage to 10 points.

Vingegaard's victory also lifted him to the summit of the mountains classification ahead of Alessandro Verre (Arkéa-B&B Hotels). The Dane has five points, two ahead of the Italian. Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) is the new leader of the best young rider competition, although the Spaniard is tied on time with six other riders. Vingegaard's stage win also helped to boost Visma-Lease a Bike to the top of the team competition.
