Who is Kelvin Fletcher? His soap career, daring new venture and famous wife

Kelvin Fletcher will be a familiar face to many - a former soap star, and now with his own farming show, he's no stranger to the world of TV.

The actor, 38, played Andy Sugden in ITV's Emmerdale from 1996 until his exit in 2016.

Now he's starring alongside Sheridan Smith in Channel 5 drama The Teacher.

The role will see Kelvin, from Oldham, play a married IT teacher called Jack, who begins a workplace flirtation with a fellow educator.

He's featured on other programmes since his Emmerdale departure, though.

In 2019, he put his dancing skills to the test and clinched the Strictly Come Dancing trophy alongside professional partner Oti Mabuse.

And more recently, Kelvin has been gracing our screens with his latest venture on BBC One.

Kelvin and his wife decided to swap city life in Manchester for something different.

Along with their two children, the couple relocated to the Peak District, where they purchased a 120-acre farm.

He might have played a farmer on Emmerdale, but neither Kelvin nor his wife have had previous farming experience.

The couple have been documenting their antics on the programme Kelvin's Big Farming Adventure, as they get to grips with the basics of agriculture.

Their plan had always been to restore the farmland and run it themselves, despite the challenges they face along the way as they delve into a whole new world.

So he's an actor, a farmer and a talented dancer - but Kelvin's talents don't end there; he is also a model and a racing car driver.

Kelvin is married to actress Liz Marsland, who portrayed Liz Steele in the 2014 BBC series In the Club.

Liz trained at the Manchester School of Acting and the London School of Musical Theatre.

She went on to star in theatre productions including The Final Whistle and The Famous Five.

Away from acting, Liz also does voice-work and has worked with brands such as Macmillan, Red Bull, and Spotify.

The couple began dating after Liz finished university, but the pair have known each other since they were around eight years old, reports Ok! Magazine.

They got engaged on a beach in Anglesey in 2014 after eights years of dating.

During a musical-themed ceremony at London's One Mayfair, Liz and Kelvin tied the knot in 2015.

A year later, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter called Marnie.

Despite having a gruelling 30-hour labour and having to undergo a blood transfusion, Liz revealed she hadn't been put off having more kids.

Her words rang true and in 2018 she went on to gave birth to a son, Milo.

The couple disclosed in December 2021 that they are adding to their brood and expecting another baby.

And in January 2022, the pair revealed that Liz is actually pregnant with twins.

Speaking to presenters Dan Walker and Sally Nugent, Kelvin and Liz announced the news on BBC Breakfast.

Sally said: "You were already quite busy, weren't you, before you took on a farm, with two young children. And you have news to share with us this morning, which is…"

"We're having another two more children!" Liz gushed.

Kelvin added: "We just recently found out, to add another curveball if you like.

"We don't really do things by halves and then we found out we're having not just one baby, but two so we are having twins."

So with a growing family, a busy farm and a thriving TV career, Kelvin will have a lot to keep him occupied this year.
