Who is Kate Osborne? Jarrow's new Labour MP

Labour have held the Jarrow constituency despite the party's former candidate being suspended from the party.

Kate Osborne, a North Tyneside councillor, won the seat though her majority was down from her predecessor Stephen Hepburn's last result in 2017.

Mr Hepburn was barred from standing for the party he represented for more than 22 years after being suspended over sexual harassment claims.

After an upset which saw the Conservatives take hold of Blyth Valley for the first time since 1935 Ms Osborne followed her Tyneside neighbours in securing Labour strongholds.

Ms Osborne was a controversial appointment after she shared an image of Theresa May at gunpoint.

It was reported there was 'outrage' following Ms Osborne's confirmation as a Labour candidate.

Politics Home claimed to have seen a letter signed by 37 MP candidates including Yvette Cooper, Stella Creasy, Rosie Duffield, Jess Phillips and Sunderland's Bridget Phillipson, to the party's ruling national executive committee opposing her bid.

Ms Osborne has apologised "unreservedly" for the post, which she shared in the run up to the 2017 election.

It showed actor Samuel Jackson in the Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction, pointing a gun, with an image of the former Prime Minister's scared-looking face in front of him.

Parodying a well-known line from the film, text on the image dares Ms May to "say 'strong and stable' again... you mother******."
