Who is Josh Sheehan? Newport County midfielder and Wales international linked with Bolton Wanderers move

Josh Sheehan has been linked with a transfer from Newport County to Bolton Wanderers.

The 26-year-old is poised to be out of contract this summer at the Exiles and due to become a free agent.

Reports have suggested that the midfielder is about to move to Ian Evatt's Wanderers and that a medical is due to take place at the League One club after agreeing a contract.

The midfielder has racked up nearly 180 appearances for the South Wales club and has even got a couple of caps under his belt for the Wales national team.

If he were to join Wanderers, he would increase the Welsh contingent at the club which currently includes Gethin Jones, MJ Williams and Lloyd Isgrove.

But who is Sheehan, the midfielder who could soon become a Whites player?

He came through the youth team ranks at Swansea City but made just one appearance for the Liberty Stadium club, in the EFL Cup in 2014 against Rotherham United.

He spent two spells out on loan at Somerset side Yeovil Town, making a total of 29 appearances and scoring twice for the Glovers in League One and League Two.

In August 2016, Sheehan went out on loan to Newport and had a productive spell as he scored seven goals in 25 appearances, but his spell was cut short by injury.

He returned to Rodney Parade, this time on a permanent basis in January 2018 and has been there ever since.

Sheehan was recently named in the PFA League Two team of the year and is currently out of contract at Newport after Exiles boss Michael Flynn said earlier this year that talks over a new deal for the midfielder had gone 'flat'.

He has also picked up two caps for Wales, earning his first in an international friendly against the USA last November which ended goalless, before picking up another in the 1-0 victory over Mexico at the end of March.
