Who is Joesef? Meet Scots singer set to play TRNSMT main stage this weekend as Elton John is huge fan

Scots singing sensation Joesef is set to take to the TRNSMT main stage on Friday after playing Glastonbury last month.

The singer, who is from Garthamlock, released his album Permanent Damage earlier this year - and a big fan of his is no other than Rocket Man legend Elton John.

If you haven't heard of Joesef, you better get to know this rising star, whose other famous fans include Clara Amfo, Lewis Capaldi and Paolo Nutini.

Joesef has a soulful voice and cool aesthetic which Elton John has praised. Speaking about him recently during an interview with Clara Amfo, he said: "Boys are making some really beautiful records, using their voices soulfully and it's lovely to hear, Joesef is so special I think. He's obviously a Scottish boy...."

He added: "When you see him and when you interview him, there's this beautiful vulnerability about him which I love. He's someone who I think has got a great future and this album for me (Permanent Damage) is a killer album, I play it all the time. Joesef is pretty special."

And as TRNSMT kicks off tomorrow, Joesef will be taking to the stage at 2.05pm, with tickets available here.

But who is Joesef? Here's everything we know about the rising star...

Hailing from the east-end of Glasgow, Joesef played his first show at King Tut's in Glasgow in 2019 after releasing music clips online, and has built up a solid fan base ever since.

Back in 2021, Joesef played his first sold out gig at The Barrowland Ballroom and returned once again back in March for two nights after once again selling out the iconic venue.

The 27-year-old has accumulated fans from all over the world, however, it came as a shock to the singer-songwriter when Sir Elton John revealed that he was 'in love with Joesef's voice and music' during a podcast interview.

Joesef, who was a guest on The Rocket Hour on Apple Music, was left in disbelief by Elton's confession, saying that he never thought he'd ever find himself chatting the to the icon.

The Rocket Man singer started the pod by saying to Joesef: "I'm so excited to talk to you because I’m in love with your music, I'm in love with your voice…"

Joesef replied and told listeners how he got into music, saying: "OMG! This is very surreal for me. I kind of started out just making tunes in by bedroom, just plugging my guitar into my laptop.

"I didn't really know what I was doing. My best mate, who is now my manager, heard me singing at an open mic night and became my manager and we just kind of rolled with it. And now I am here talking to Elton John on The Rocket Hour."

In December 2022, Joesef supported Paisley singer Paolo Nutini at his sell-out gig at the OVO Hydro.

Following the release of Permanant Damage, which rocketed to number one on the iTunes chart and number 2 on the Spotify Top Album Debut chart, Joesef released four new music videos which he said were heavily influenced by Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting.

The singer hosted a music video launch at Glasgow's Platform following the release of the much anticipated album.

He even had his own stall at the Barras on Saturday to sell CDs, records and cassettes which sold out in a matter of hours.

You can download his album here.

Joesef is currently on his UK and European tour but you can also catch him in the line-up for Glasgow Green's TRNSMT Festival this weekend, and tickets are still available here.
