Who is JJ Chalmers on Strictly? Athlete turned presenter on line-up for new series

A whole host of celebrities are getting their dancing shoes on for Strictly Come Dancing 2020 and among them is JJ Chalmers.

After coming under threat from the coronavirus pandemic, this year's series will be shorter than usual, with a later start.

That later start will see this year's celebs finally paired up with their professional partners in a special show this Saturday before the Strictly live shows kick off.

They will all be hoping to follow in the footsteps of last year's champion Kelvin Fletcher who won the Glitterball after replacing the injured Jamie Laing, with the Made in Chelsea star getting a second chance at Strictly success this time round.

Among the names on the Strictly lineup this year are HRVY, Jason Bell and Caroline Quentin. And another celeb hoping to samba their way to victory is JJ Chalmers who will be dancing for the first time along his professional partner as the live shows get going on October 24.

Who is JJ Chalmers?

The former Royal Marine and Invictus Games medallist was revealed on Lorraine and said he was going to "immerse himself in the process."

In May 2011, JJ, 33, sustained devastating injuries in a blast while serving in Afghanistan; he suffered facial injuries, lost two fingers and his right elbow disintegrated.

JJ's TV career has so far seen him present coverage of World Championship Athletics, Commonwealth Games and Olympics for the BBC, as well as reporting on annual events like the Great North Run, Great Manchester Run and The London Marathon.

He has also been a reporter on The One Show.

*Strictly Come Dancing kicks off on Saturday, October 17 at 7.50pm.
