Who is Gregory Porter? Strictly performance beckons for Grammy winner

A touch of class will be brought to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom on Sunday night when Gregory Porter is the show’s latest musical guests,

Following in the footsteps of the likes of Westlife and last weekend’s stars Craig David and MNEK, Gregory will help round off Strictly’s Halloween Week festivities with his performance.

There has already been plenty of anticipation for Sunday’s results show after this week’s Strictly spoiler leaked another unexpected result.

Some shocked fans said they ‘felt sick’ after the bottom two was published online and, those who didn’t want to find out early, will discover the outcome on the pre-recorded results show.

Who is Gregory Porter?

Gregory is an American singer, songwriter and actor.

One of the shining moments of the 49-year-old’s career to date arrived in 2014 when he won his first Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

He went onto win the same accolade three years later in 2017 for his album Take Me To The Alley.

Gregory’s appearance on Sunday night’s Strictly is far from being his first UK TV appearance.

In 2016 he performed on Children in Need in honour of long serving host Sir Terry Wogan, who was a big fan of his.

A year later he appeared on The Graham Norton Show when he was joined by Jurassic Park actor Jeff Goldblum on piano and in a random career move in 2019, he also sang on CBeebies Bedtime Story.

Over the past week, Gregory has been posting teasers for his new album, Still Rising, on Instagram.

He is tipped to perform one of the tracks from it, Dry Bones, on Strictly.

Halloween Week proved to be a great one for Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice, after they earned the earliest 40 in the show’s history for their tango to Ed Sheeran’s Shivers.
