Who is Grammy song of the year winner Bonnie Raitt?

Bonnie Raitt has won Song of the Year at the 2023 Grammy's, but who is she?

Bonnie is a blues singer, best known for her song 'I Can't Make You Love Me', and won a Grammy last night for her song 'Just Like That' in the Song of the Year category. She has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame over the course of her career, which has spanned 50 years.

She debuted in 1971, releasing her self-titled debut album, and has since then released more than 15 albums. She is also well known for her activism, dedicating her 1972 album Give It Up "to the people of North Vietnam".

She has also openly discussed her struggles with drugs and alcohol abuse during her career, having marked 25 years of sobriety in 2012. At last night's Grammy's, her song 'Just Like That' also won Best American Roots Song, and her song 'Made Up My Mind' for Best Americana Performance.

Accepting her win for Song of the Year at last night's Grammy's, she said: "This is just an unreal moment. Thank you for honouring me, the only academy that surrounded me with so much support and appreciates the art of song-writing as I do.

"I was so inspired for this song by the incredible story of the love and the grace and the generosity of someone that donates their beloved organs to help another person live. The story was so simple and so beautiful for these times.

"I don’t write a lot of songs but I’m so proud that you appreciate this one and what this means for me and for the rest of the songwriters, who I would not be up here tonight if it wasn’t for the art of the great soul digging, hard working people that put these songs and ideas to music."
